What is Dwell?

I just received an email (justgayenough@gmail.com) from Lauren who was letting me know that she recently read this post and wanted to know what Dwell is. Playboy is the best (so I have been told) for porn and Dwell is the best when it comes to modern home design and decor. The magazine is sold at most major book stores and could easily be the modern decor bible.

If you like modern design or are just getting into it Dwell will be an excellent resource. If you like the style of furniture you see in the magazine but can't afford the designer prices you should check out
West Elm. West Elm has everything you need to turn your living space into more than just... space.

Kanye West- Good Life Video

This is the latest video from Kanye West. The track is called Good Life. I dig both the song and the video. Enjoy

Outfit - Man Purse - Hair Update

Today’s Outfit: black pinstripe pants and a white button down. Classic.

Man Purse: I woke up with a couple grocery bags below my eyes so I have some
Neutrogena Eye Reviver in the man purse today. If you have the bags… purchase the product.

Hair Update: My hair is starting to grow back and I am getting to that fuzz ball point. That means I either need to commit to letting it grow back or shave it again ASAP. Not having hair to deal with is an absolutely luxury!

The Alpha Male

I just read this article on Alpha Males and am sitting here thinking about where I fit in. I would say I used to be alpha all the way... but have learned and am still learning how to use my talents more tactfully. The writer ends the article with the following summary on the alpha male:

"Alpha males aren’t concerned with being liked. This is true in part because they already get enough love from themselves. But they aren’t the only ones who love them; while conducting research for this article, I came across numerous blogs that featured women tangled in a heated discussion concerning the alpha male. Allow me to paraphrase the overarching female opinion on such men:“Alpha Males are jerks. I can’t stand how attracted I am to them.”

The Pumpkins Have Been Carved... Boo

We invited some friends over to do a little pumpkin carving last night. The one that looks like it is mysteriously hovering above all the others is mine. I pretty much leave the seeds and all inside... because I am really not crazy about the slime!

The Proximity Hotel. Stunning!

The Proximity Hotel, one of the greenest hotels in the country is scheduled to open on November 1. L and I, along with two friends stopped by the Proximity, no, let’s call it the Prox. Anyway, we stopped by last night for the “soft” opening and it is a truly amazing hotel. Read this New York Times article to understand why the hotel is such a prized possession for Greensboro.

If you like the modern lifestyle you absolutely must stop by the Prox. From the furniture to the concrete walls to the suspended front desk counter the designers have cut no corners. Speaking of the hotels designers, they sat next to us last night in the Bistro… which will soon be one of “the” places to be seen in the Boro. Don’t think of this place as an ordinary hotel because there literally is nothing else (maybe 1 in Cali.) like it in the US.

After a stint in the Bistro we decided to ask for a tour of a couple of the rooms (around 11:30 pm). Without question the front desk attendant made arrangements and we were off to be amazed. The first of the two rooms was one of there normal overnight rooms and it was stunning. The room looked like it had been plucked from the pages of Dwell and was as modern as they come. The shower was big enough for at least 10 people to have a good party in. The second of the two rooms was a corner room and the floor to ceiling windows provide a view that will make you say “wow.” You must stop by and check out the Prox first hand… as there is no way I can do it justice.

Here is a quick photo tour.

A New Sprint Phone... and It's Really Cool

The LG Rumor, a slim and feature-rich device that eschews a smartphone's bulky form factor without looking like something a text-addicted tween would carry. And while we dig the hidden qwerty keyboard—the phone offers the standard e-mail, Web browser, IM, and integrated GPS—the best part is its price, which is expected to be under $100. Look for it in Sprint stores next month.

Guys and Umbrellas

My hometown of Greensboro, NC has been in a severe drought like much of the country but we have been fortunate to get a nice steady rain for the last three days. As I exited the parking deck this morning and was headed to work I noticed mobs of guys not using umbrellas. Is there an unwritten rule that guys can’t use an umbrella? I simply do not understand the concept of wearing nice clothes and getting them soaking wet. If you aren’t going to use an umbrella at least get yourself a decent overcoat.

L and I Took a Trip to Portland, Maine

L and I took this photo (I snapped the shot) last weekend in Portland, Maine. We went on a little camping trip with a couple of friends and had blast. The cabin we stayed in can be seen below.

The cabin has electricity but no heat or running water. Number 1's are done outside but you can conveniently do a number 2 inside on the electric toilet. It takes two hours two turn your ____ to ash. I opted out and waited until I saw civilization.

This is the view from the couch. Rad huh?

Velvet is Hot

The inside of this jacket is just as hot as the outside. This has flavor written all over it!! It will set you back a good $995 though. You can pick it up at Bergdorf Goodman. I wouldn't rush off and pick this up just yet. Most of the major department stores will likely have something very similiar... and if they do not, they will at least have something that is velvet.

Muji

Muji a Japaneese company known for bringing ultraclean aesthetics to everyday items recently opened a 3,000 square-foot store in Mahnattan, its first attempt in the US. They are pretty good at adding a little flavor to items that you typically wouldn't think twice about. They also have some cool products like the wall mounted cd player shown above.

Check out Muji Web site here.

What an Underwear Party Taught Me

I have gone to two different underwear parties. No not where you buy underwear, it’s where you party with nothing on but your underwear. Sound crazy? Loosen up because its not. Before the first party there was a small amount of anxiety because of all the unknowns but that all went away two minutes into the party. I was a bit more reserved for the first party and wore boxer briefs… and I felt like that was a good effort considering how short the boxers were. The photo below is not of me but the Punto Blanco underwear that the guy has on is what I wore to the first party. For the second underwear party I had dropped a couple pounds and decided to step out a little farther and wear briefs. In the world of men’s underwear the selection is very limited. The briefs category tends to have more options which makes the fashion side of the party a bit more fun. I wore a pair of briefs made by Andrew Christian… and man I felt good. Again, a photo is below but that is not me in the photo. The underwear parties were a blast and if you ever get the chance to go to one… do it! You will become more confident in your skin.
Now to the point of this post. Underwear always seem to be a very important thing to females but males really don’t put much stock into the undie category. I think this is a huge mistake. Most guys tend to think, “if no one is going to see them who cares.” That seems like a very valid point but it is the farthest thing from the truth. There is something about wearing nice underwear that makes you feel great. I can’t explain it but I know it is the truth. Do yourself or your guy a favor and go to
http://www.skiviez.com and purchase you (if you are a guy)/your guy something out of the ordinary.

PS- Guys, research the Andrew Christianson briefs… they have a little pick me up secret that you will dig.

PSS- I’m getting used to the shaved head and I really like it. I didn't realize how much your hair actually allows you to hide your face. Not having any hair really puts your facial features out there...

Britney Spears Showing Off Her Goods... AGAIN!!!

Are you in the mood for some afternoon celebrity trash? Britney Spears has done it again. Like I have said before, I am not an internet porn but just like you am amused with how stupid female celebs can be. Britney Spears has done the upskirt thing several times... but this time there is nothing blocking the view. To see the 100% not safe for work photo click here.

I totally changed my look

Let’s talk about my hair for a second. I like to consider myself a stylish guy and my hair is just as important as the clothes that I wear. Lately the plan has been to let my hair get a bit longer, especially the bangs. This hair style was really cool in theory but it just wasn’t working for me. Between bike riding and other sports the long hair became a bit unpleasant once I got hot and sweaty. So my haircut was scheduled for last night at 7:30 pm and I didn’t have a clue what to tell my stylist to do. I am one of those sit in the chair and give the person total control type of guys. We talked about going back to the faux-hawk… but I had already done that. It was an awesome hairstyle but I got tired of keeping it tame for the everyday work environment.

All that being said I decided to shave my head. It’s something that I have always wanted to do but was kind of chicken to do. The new cut is very GQ… well minus the big muscles.

Not having any hair is a very weird thing. You feel things on head that you have never felt before. Every time I touch my head its like “wow” there isn’t any hair to mess with. The lack of hair really makes a person’s face stand out which can almost give you a feeling of insecurity for a brief moment.

All and all I think I dig the new look.

Sienna Miller Nude

I check out several celebrity blogs each morning (it's an old routine that I can't break) and this morning I saw some photos from Sienna Millers new movie Hippie Hippie Shake. I am sure they won't show her fully nude in the movie (who knows) but someone took some photos on the set... which will really piss her off. The photos are full on nude so make sure your boss isn't standing right behind you. Find them here at Egotastic.

Mens Wearhouse Makes Me Feel Blah

I’m 28 and my previous jobs have not required me to wear a suit and tie to work. My current job has a business casual dress code (which I think should be defined by the above photo) so I still do not have to wear the suit and tie which I guess is nice. On the other hand, if I have to dress up in any way, shape or form… I want to look good! Wearing dress pants and a button down is so blah to me. Don’t get me wrong, this is normally what I end up wearing to work but it is certainly not a confidence booster. I own three suits. One was purchased seven or eight years ago and the other two mistakes were purchased from the Men’s Wearhouse (only because I needed a suit ASAP). The older suit still looks good since I have recently dropped a few pounds but the Wearhouse suits simply look horrible. Granted, they served their purpose when I needed them but now I cringe when I have to wear them. They are too big here, to big there and I am not sure what is going on in the crotch area. When I sit down it looks like my region (yes that region) is covered up by a huge bulge of wasted fabric.

Women have it so easy. You can go to TJ Max, find a couple random items and look like a million bucks. A guy’s wardrobe is so limited! Pants only get so exciting and shirts… don’t even get me started. I think I need to make a visit to Nordstrom and get some shopping therapy.
